This site is a historical website for the Crows Nest Shire Council which served the community until 14 March 2008. From Saturday 15 March 2008, council staff continue to serve the community and greater region as part of the Toowoomba Regional Council following a merger with seven neighbouring councils.

There have been no new cases of equine influenza in Queensland reported to DPI&F since Christmas 2007. As of Tuesday 22 January 2008, there are only 202 infected properties in Queensland and the number is dropping every day. The following map shows areas of infected properties. As indicated on the map, our Shire is now clear of equine influenza.

With new event protocols now in place to reduce the risk of another outbreak of equine influenza, all event organisers must apply to the Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries (DPI&F) before they can run an event in the red and amber zones of Queensland. Part of this application includes details of strict biosecurity measures in place, including the use of blood tests and or vaccinations to prevent any infection of healthy horses.
